History
The Massachusetts Career Development Institute, Incorporated (MCDI, Inc.) was founded as a public organization in 1970 known then as the Skills Center. In 1973, the Institute increased its size and scope and provided 300 graduates annually to local employers. In October, 1979, after several moves due to its need to serve an expanding population and to house an increasing variety of available programs, the Institute moved to its present location at 140 Wilbraham Avenue in Springfield. MCDI, Inc. was established in 1979, for the purpose of providing skills training opportunities to those not served by the public entity. MCDI, Inc. has a well-trained and dedicated staff, and the capability to train 1,800 students each year, satisfying a wide variety of educational and training needs. The Institute has trained more than 31,000 Western Massachusetts residents and is committed to the needs of many thousands more over the next decade.
The goal of the MCDI, Inc. is to ensure that well trained people are available for career directed employment in the private sector. In addition, the MCDI, Inc. has a long history of working directly with private sector firms to upgrade the technical skills of employees in such companies as Danaher Tool Group, Deluxe Check Printers, Geriatric Authority of Holyoke, MassMutual Insurance Company, Milton Bradley Company, Texcel, United Technologies, U.S. Tsubaki, Inc., Northwestern Mutual, Baystate Health, Town of Agawam, City of Springfield to name just a few.
