 DYS-Putnam Vocational Program

DYS-Putnam Vocational Training Program is designed to give youth in the custody of the Department of Youth Services (DYS) the opportunity to learn vocational and employability skills. The goal of the program is to remedy the long-standing issue of DYS youth being woefully underserved especially during the re-entry phase. Traditional media of education and services are ill-prepared to addresses the many needs of this vulnerable population. Hence the young people find themselves committed to a life of crimes and trips in and out of secured detention or treatment centers.

To remedy this situation innovative and adequate programming that benefits this vulnerable population like Putnam Vocational Training is needed. The program combines vocational training with intense case-management, counseling, wrap-around services, life-skills and leadership programs, to ensure a holistic approach to re-entry. Each youth upon successful completion of the program will do a 10-week paid internship with a local employer. The program also provides career services in helping the participants with job placement and retention.

Services Offered:

Vocational training, Workplace Readiness Certification, personal growth (life skills, leadership and character development workshops), internships/job placement.

Incentives Offered:

Weekly stipend, Certificate of Completion, Resume, Learners’ Permit, Bus Passes, Gift Cards, and other bonuses.
